Active Education Partnerships

Active Education Partnerships (AEP) is an outsource service for schools, colleges and government lead initiatives, each of which has its own mission and ethos to educate young people in a range of domains. The purpose of this service is to provide expertise in a specific area of learning that is not generally available in schools and colleges and to form partnerships with them in the delivery of high quality outdoor learning programs.

KJO are a leading provider of coaching and adventure experiences. Our knowledge, experience and resources allow us to deliver experiential learning programmes that prepare young people for the personal, social and professional challenges in their lives, through the use of paddlesport in a diverse range of environments throughout UK and Europe. We deliver a comprehensive range of paddlesport course programs that can be tailored or created to meet your needs. Students will have the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications in their chosen activities.

Active Education aims to provide the highest level of customer service:

  • Outsourcing solutions for outdoor education requirements.
  • Active Education support to ensure our partnership success.
  • A dedicated team of experts coaches in recreational and competitive paddlesport.
  • Bespoke learning programs to cater for schools or colleges specific requirements.
  • KJO exceed all requirements set by AALA and The British Canoe Union.

Do you provide support services?

The Active Education Support Officer (ESO) is a system that KJO has implemented to provide a key focal point for schools and colleges; the system ensures one senior KJO person becomes responsible for liaising with each client in relation to all aspects of your Active Education program. This service is provided at no additional cost to the school.

This position is designed to assist the Outdoor Education co-ordinator in the school with the many time-consuming and on-going logistical tasks needing to be completed prior to any program leaving the school. Basically, the KJO Active Education Support Officer is there to provide support to the school’s Outdoor Education co-ordinator so that they can concentrate on other pressing issues that teachers find themselves having to juggle.

We will also provide a resource pack that includes a wealth of useful information:

  • A detailed booking guide to help you through each stage of the planning process and preparations.
  • A booklet giving you full details of our Code of Practice and our safety management system.
  • A parent letter template to advertise the course/trip.
  • Information for each student and their parents explaining the course in detail.
  • KJO Posters to advertise your trip on your school notice boards.
  • A folder for keeping all your essential trip information together

Can my KJO course be linked to the National Curriculum?

All of our existing courses, trips and experiences may be linked to the National Curriculum and our Active Education Module resources. All our Active Education Programs have been design to combine Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) with the National Curriculum.

The KJO’s Active Education program is based on Dr Istvan Balyi’s LTAD model. The six-stage process focuses on best practice at each stage of development at every level. At KJO we use LTAD to develop the skills that are appropriate at each age and stage of paddler’s development.

This is achieved through the following;

  • At KJO we consider past practice and evidence from recent research in seeking to develop paddlesport. We have adopted a structured approach to paddler development so that every individual can reach their potential and enjoy sport throughout their lifetime. Each development stage is intended to progress young people at the appropriate rate as they grow and develop into young adults.
  • The LTAD model focuses on providing a base of high-quality skill development to give the paddler the skills necessary to follow a performance-orientated pathway or to enjoy paddlesport recreationally. The model also helps develop generic movement skills for other sports.
  • Focus around the stipulations of the National Curriculum. Our programme is built around the fundamental physical education disciplines of physical control and competence, but operates in a completely new and exciting environment. This can be pushed and extended as the student’s progress to higher levels of paddlesport.

Bearing in mind the stipulations detailed above, we have put together a series of program frameworks which can be adapted and developed to meet the needs of each institution. Click here to see a sample of our programme keys learning outcomes.
