Long Term Coach Development - Fast track

LTCD Fast Track program is an opportunity to undertake development and train with Team KJO and some of the most experienced kayak and canoe coaches in the world. The program provides intensive skills training and accelerated progression towards qualifications needed to a professional coach. Undertaking the KJO LTCD program gives you an awesome opportunity to carve your mark in the coaching community and become an incredible coach.

What can the course provide me?

Due to the custom nature of the program we will work with you identify your needs and desires, then we will set out a development pathway to provide a unique time framed learning program. These could be in specialist areas such as freestyle, steep creeking, river running and expeditioning in canoe or kayak. The following development opportunities are typical for our programs:

  • Accelerated experiences – through exposure to intensive coaching opportunities.
  • Skills and performance based training.
  • Coach Education Courses.
  • Development towards NGB pre-requirements for the respective awards.
  • National Governing Body award training and assessment courses
  • Opportunities to observe and reflect with KJO coaches.
  • Opportunities to assist KJO coaches to develop specialization in chosen disciplines.
  • Professional Development opportunities on our Trips and Experiences.
  • Coached and guided by KJO staff all the way through your training.
  • A personal mentor to guide your progress through the programme.

If you have experience and already hold qualifications, it will be possible for you to aim towards higher levels of qualifications or specialised knowledge.

Do I need to be at a specific level to come on a Professional Development Program?

This is a tailored rapid development program open to all levels of ability. KJO will help you identify your development needs and then set a mutually agreed action plan that addresses both your performance and coaching skills.

How long does the scheme last?

Your programme is flexible to fit around your lifestyle and work demands. However at the start a time frame for completion will be outlined, this does have a reasonable level of flexibility ( this will all be agreed through your training contract) .You are encouraged to use your time between sessions to consolidate and work toward your qualifications; we provide assistance in networking with other paddlers.

How do you apply for this opportunity?

If you are interested in applying for the fast-track program please complete an online LTCP fast-track application form and submit or post it to the KJO office. On receipt of your form you will then be invited to attend a meeting to discuss the details of your program. This is an important and valuable opportunity to discuss expectations and describe your own current level and range of skills.

During this meeting you will meet a mentor who answer any questions, discuss the format of the program and how it will fits in with your needs. This is also a time to plan how you will develop your experience prior to the start of the course.

After the meeting you should then be in a position to make a decision about booking a place on the course.

There are a limited number of places available per year and the demand for these is very high. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a highly motivated, inspirational and professional environment working with an industry leading organization.
