3 Star Award Open Canoe
Get yourself off to a flying start in your new sport, this exciting introduction to moving water provides you with necessary skills to be a competent team paddler in open water and Grade 1 rivers. At the end of the course you will receive a personalised action plan, designed to guide you towards a successful assessment.

Personal Paddling Skills
- How canoeing affects your posture, fitness and health.

In order to be able to go forward we will provide you advice and help you to construct an action plan to continue your development and measure your achievements.
What experience do I need to go for my training?
Two star standard is the appropriate level of performance for paddlers to begin working towards the 3 Star Award.
- Provide evidence of at least 3 different journeys in open canoe, of about 3 hours duration (10Km) each with at least 1 of these in an open water environment.
- Where the BCU 2 Star Award is not held the candidate should provide evidence of at least 1 session of about 3 hours duration, in an alternative discipline.

After my training what does the assessment involve?
Assessment will take 2 days. You should be entirely comfortable on Open and Grade 1 moving water. During the assessment you are expected to demonstrate appropriate paddling ability and be suitable equipped for the venue.
