Introduction to Classics
Classics is a term used to describe the best river descents in a given area, exceptional runs that stand out from the rest. This is an action packed program exploring a diverse range progressive range of Grade 3/4(5) rivers including creeks and falls. All are carefully selected to provide a progressive route that stretches and expands boundaries and performance.
What can Classics provide me?
You will be coached in a diverse selection of skills to suit the ever changing needs of white water. From then on you’ll be coached on a progressive range of Grade 3/4(5) rivers, learning all the skills you need to boat with confidence and control.
The learning outcomes of this program are totally geared towards performance, confidence and leadership. If you have an interest in the following development areas this course would have great benefits for you. This list is a sample of some of the areas we cover:-
- Learn and refine the latest boating techniques for rivers, creeks and falls.
- Overcome plateaus in your performance.
- Tactical knowledge of selecting and achieving lines.
- Establish your own routine to maximise your physical, technical, psychological and tactical performance.
- Efficiency in your application of technique and manoeuvres.
- A greater understanding of mental rehearsal and how to best apply it.
- Boat and bank based scouting techniques including assessing risks and consequence.
- Setting up bank and water based safety, including operating in steep terrain.
- Learn and gain experience in essential safety and leadership
- Trip planning and map reading skills.
- Regular video analysis sessions to aid skill acquisition and efficiency.
- Set a long-term action plan for your on going development.
In order to ensure you get the best learning opportunities available KJO use a range of creative debriefing tools each day. Throughout the week the KJO professional coaching experience will allow you to achieve multiple goals so as to balance and maximise your skill development.
What level of ability do I need to be?
In order to get the best out of this course you should feel confident on grade 4 water. You must have a reliable white water roll (80%+ effective). You should also be reasonably fit as there is a certain amount of trekking with boats involved. If you have little confidence with drops and falls or your roll is not confident then check out our Free-ride V2 or Advanced Rolling Courses.
