Introduction to Quick Start
If you have just started canoeing or never been in a boat before this is the ideal program for you. The course sets you off using our unparalleled Quick Start format to ensure rapid progression and solid skill acquisition of fundamentals and knowledge. During the week you’ll work on flat water, moving water and surf.
What can Quick Start provide me?
You learn fundamental skills that allow you to operate in surf and grade 2 whitewater environments. We operate these courses in locations where our classroom (the river, the beech and flat water locations) is ideal allowing us to enjoy the best learning environment. This means you’ll go away knowledgeable, confident and with a deep understanding of how things work allowing you to make quicker progress. If you have an interest in the following development areas this course would have great benefits for you:-
- Water confidence building and how to deal with capsize.
- Rolling techniques for flat, whitewater and surf.
- Fundamental boat control for whitewater and surf.
- Safety Awareness and Rescues Skills.
- Fitness for boating – warming up and down.
- Choosing appropriate sites and locations for canoeing adventures.
At the end of the week we help you create your own development plan, so you know where you’re going, what you need to do and how you can go about doing it.
What ability level do I need to be?
Ideally you would have undertaken a Quickstart 1 course. This would have given you an introduction to paddlesport and how a kayak performs. You should be able to paddle forwards and backwards and stop the boat suddenly if required. You should be confident through a capsize drill. You should also be reasonably fit. If you want to refresh your skills or check out how the Quickstart program works a Quickstart 1 day course would be ideal.
